I have noticed this problem as well.
- "vi /etc/hosts": segfaults
- "vi /c/Windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts": works
- "cd $HOME; ln -s /c/Windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts foo; vi foo": works
I get similar behavior with the other symlinks in /etc.
