This already happened in the past (for Vim):

$ vim -g
E25: GUI cannot be used: Not enabled at compile time

$ gvim

and nobody seems to complain about it.

If insight is changed to rely on X, I will split the packages. I'm not going to make gdb rely on X.

Even if unrelated with my post, your point of view is clear and I agree with it.
