After sending the reply below, I did what I said I did before today
(actually twice) to try to solve this problem: I rebooted my Thinkpad the
way I usually do, by shutting down all running windows (including daemons
like sshd running under Cygwin). I still see: ----------8<---------- top
cut 1/2 -> bottom 1/2 ----------->8----------
C:\cygwin\usr\X11R6\bin\XWin.exe (3276): *** cygheap base mismatch detected
- 0x611548E0/0x9748E0. This problem is probably due to using incompatible
versions of the cygwin DLL. Search for cygwin1.dll using the Windows
Start->Find/Search facility and delete all but the most recent version. The
most recent version *should* reside in x:\cygwin\bin, where 'x' is the
drive on which you have installed the cygwin distribution. Rebooting is
also suggested if you are unable to find another cygwin DLL.
----------8<---------- bottom cut 1/2 <- top 1/2 ----------->8----------
You may want to try again with a snapshot then.
