Does the 'bin' subdirectory exist? If not then you're probably running
into an aspect of <http://cygwin.com/ml/cygwin/2005-08/msg01097.html>.
Perhaps a better way to do this would be:
ANT_HOME=`readlink -m "$ANT_HOME"`
