So are you saying "SIGALRM has been entered, but has not returned, so the
signal handling code won't try to enter it again" ?

SIGALRM has been blocked upon entry to the signal handling routine. Since you long jumped out of it, it's still blocked.

Did you follow that thread through to the end?

No, I assumed you were pointing to a specific message.
