questions on signals

How do I get trap to get back to the default settings after entering 'trap
"echo hi" DEBUG'? 'trap -' doesn't seem to work.

How can I get ctrl-C to quit this cpu-intensive loop?
  echo | awk '{while(1){} }'

cygcheck shows:
  bash                    2.05b-16           OK
  gawk                    3.1.3-4            OK

type awk:
awk is /bin/awk

ls -l /bin/awk:
lrwxrwxrwx    1 shaffek  Users          19 Oct 29 15:44 /bin/awk ->
gawk.exe
