zsh works for me:

cat << EOF

EOF
(Administrator@garfunkel)[107] ~ % zsh x
foo
(Administrator@garfunkel)[108] ~ % chmod a+rx x
(Administrator@garfunkel)[109] ~ % ./x
foo
This may be a textmode vs binmode thing?
