The weird syntax is an attempt at redirecting stdout and stdin to
the same place, i.e. the serial port.
lsz --zmodem foobar.zip </dev/com1 >/dev/com1
gives access denied
> $ lsz --zmodem foobar.zip </dev/com1

AFAICT, lsz uses stdout/stdin, so I would then be listening to the
serial port and sending data to the console, e.g:
oyvind@famine ~/xyz
$ install/bin/lsz <com1 lrzsz-0.12.20.tar.gz
SââB00000000000000
