Igor, what's your reading of the log?
We have a chicken and egg problem here. Perhaps mkpasswd works just
fine but it was never called because passwd-grp.sh could not be
found!

What happens when you type sh -c /etc/postinstall/passwd-grp.sh.done?
Do you have an /etc/passwd file? If not please type
mkpasswd -l -c > /etc/passwd
mkgroup -l -c > /etc/group
and then getfacl /etc
