Re: cygwin on XP


As the XP installations where I have most often run cygwin are on
P4, I am not totally certain I have separated the hardware
dependent issues.  I have had difficulty getting binutils
configured for maximum support of alignments, as well as in
getting all the necessary steps engaged.  A 60% performance
improvement from the default cygwin 4-byte alignments is typical
for 64-bit data when all the steps are engaged.  For many of us,
use of XP is correlated with P4, and ending up with less
performance on a P4 than on a P3 is a form of failure.
