cygwin running Windows 2000

Hello,

I downloaded cygwin from cygwin.com to run on my Dell Pentium 3 under
Windows 2000.

I can compile a simple "hello, world" program, but when I execute it using
gdb debugger, it's dying calling:

std::cout << "Hello, World!\n";

Can you tell me what I might have set up wrong? The thing compiled, after
all, and was apparently able to see <iostream>

Thanks fro any guidance you can provide,

Craig Marina
