... I have a space in the Username "xxxxx yyyyy" (Win98 SE):

In this case bash looks in "/" for the ".bash_login".

If I set HOME to "/home/xxxxx" in cygwin.bat. Than it works and bash 
looks in "/home/xxxxx".
