Ah ha... I didn't realize that a new libtool 'test' version had been 
released.  I'll try it out with lesstif and see if it enables gcc-3.4.1 to 
compile a working version (I expect that it will since I seem to have only 
the .rdata problem). 

Thanks for looking into all aspects of this problem Chuck, I really 
appreciate it, and find it intriguing.
